Kill List (2011)

Kill List, this is a very dark British crime/thriller/ Psychological horror movie.
At the start it seems like a normal British gangster movie, but soon it will go very deep and very dark.
It truly is a chilling and creepy movie.
It is directed by Ben Wheatley he has also written the story, but together with Amy Jump.

The movie starts out with a couple arguing over money, this couple is Jay (Neil Maskell) and his wife Shel (MyAnna Buring) We learn that Jay has not had any work the last 8 months, and that his wife think he is a lazy bastard. After this Shel is having a conversation on the phone in Swedish, which I think was really cool. Shel and Jay are later having a dinner party with a friend and former companion soldier in Kiev of Jay, his name is Gal (Michael Smiley) and his new girlfriend Fiona (Emma Fryer). Sitting in the yard talking Gal brings up a new job, that is well paid and easy money. Jay doesn't want to at start, but Gal has already told Shel about this job.
They all seem to be having a good time, until Jay and Shel are having a fight again. Gal is taking their son to his room. And tells him about how mom and dad are just having an argument.
After all this they are all having a good time dancing to a really good song Joan Armatrading with It Could Have Been Better. And they are all laughing and having a good time again.
Then something weird happens, Fiona goes to the bathroom, and makes some kind of sign on the back of the mirror with a knife.

Jay finds a killed rabbit in the yard, and thinks it is the cat "coming with presents" he cooks the rabbit and sitting in the yard eating the rabbit "showing off" as Shel tells their son. Jay gives Gal a visit and they are going to do this job. They go to see the client (Stuan Rodger), something also seems weird with this guy, when he meets them he takes a knife and cuts his own hand and Jay`s hand with a knife.
The job is to kill three people, Jay and Gal goes to a hotel where they are going to live during this job. There is a good scene in the hotel restaurant where Jay gets angry with a group of Christians playing a guitar.

They are now on good way on starting their work. The three people they are going to kill is The Priest, The Librarian and The MP.
After killing the priest, and they are hunting up The Librarian things starts to get really creepy. Finding the Librarian going out from some kind of storage room. They break into the storage room before finding his house. In the storage room they find all kinds of pornography.
Gal goes to a small TV and turns on the tape in the tape player, only to see something he really do not want to see.
After the two of them sees this movie, Jay is really losing it, and the killing of The librarian will be much more brutal than the first killing. After this things get darker and darker.

*Spoilers*

This movie is really good, I love the gloomy atmosphere and the creepy music always playing in the background. It really gives the movie a sinister feel.
The movie contains some good and brutal violence amongst others the torture and a guy getting his head smashed open with a hammer, which is made very realistic.
Some of the soundtrack are the song Joan Armatrading with It Could Have Been Better as mentioned before, it also has some good ambient tunes by Jim Williams and also a good tune by DJrum Forgetting Original mix.

This is a really good movie, much better than the British gangster drama it seems to be in the start

I give this movie a 6 out of 10

The Stepfather (2009)

Well this movie is a remake of the old The Stepfather from 1987. I did never see the old The Stepfather, but I watched this one, and will probably watch the old ones later.
This movie is directed by Nelson McCormick, and the screenplay is written by J.S. Cardone. But the original story was written by Donald E. Westlake, Carolyn Lefcourt and Brian Garfield.
These movies are loosely based on the real crimes by the mass murderer John List.

The film starts out with the scene where "Grady Edwards" (Dylan Walsh) is transforming himself in the bathroom, shaving off his beard, dying his hair and so on. He goes downstairs with his luggage and makes himself food and coffee, and when he leaves we will see that the rest of his "family" is murdered. His "wife" and three children.

After this we meet Susan Harding (Sela Ward) who is out shopping with her two youngest children, and they meet Grady as the two children are fighting over cookies. Grady says "Life is not fair. Life is about letting the woman pick the cookies."
He introduces himself to Susan, but under another name, David Harris. He tells her he lost his wife and daughter in a car accident about a year ago. Susan gets charmed by David, and six months later they are engaged. This is when Susan`s eldest son Michael (Penn Badgley) returns from military school, and gets to meet David at his homecoming surprise party. David invites Michael for a drink in the basement.
In the basement David has installed locked cabins where he keeps his secret stash of tequila.

David seems to be a really good husband and father to all the children, he even fix things for Michael so he is allowed to go back to the swimming team at his old school.
But this is when David starts to act out a little, when Susan is yelling at her youngest son Sean to turn down the sounds on his video game. When he does not listen, David goes in to his room grabs him by the neck and turns down the video games himself.

The first suspicion the oldest son Michael gets that it is something wrong with his mothers new boyfriend David, is when he mixed up the name of his late daughter.
And he gets even more suspicious when the neighbor lady comes to tell their mother that David looks allot like a person she saw on Americas Most Wanted.
When Michael starts to investigate this on his own, things only gets worse and worse.

I thought this movie was an alright movie, but I was hoping for allot more than what it was.
As I said earlier in the post, I have not seen the original The Stepfather, but I will see it later. And I hope it is allot better than this one.
Of course it was an ok movie, but it is not a movie I would be interested in seeing again.
I wish we would see more of the unraveling of the killer, seeing him going more crazy as things doesnt go the way he wants it to. I want to see more crazy!
Also there is not so much brutality in this movie eather. But it was an ok movie.
The music was not so interesting eather, the onlu song I really remember from the movie was an awful version of Happy Together with Filter.

I give this movie a 4 out of 10

Buffalo 66 (1998)

I will now review one of my all time favorite movies Buffalo 66.
This is also an independent movie by the multi talented Vincent Gallo, which is both the writer and the main actor in this movie. Gallo also made and preformed allot of the music for this movie. Christina Ricci is the other main actor in this movie, and some other actors are Mickey Rourke, Rosanna Arquette, Ben Gazzara and Anjelica Huston.

Billy Brown (Vincent Gallo) is just released from a five year sentence in jail, for a crime he did not do. Billy is released by a prison guard, but I quickly comes back and asks to use the bathroom.
But the prison guard will not let him back, because "This is the discharge gate" so Billy needs to get on a bus to town.
When Billy gets to town after a long bus rides, he really needs to use a bathroom, and walks around town to find a place to take a leak. But fails to go anywhere, even in the restaurant he tries he gets thrown right back out.

Billy finally finds a bathroom in a place where some people are learning to tap dance, this is where we first see Christina Ricci (Layla). In the bathroom Billy is going to take a piss, but in the urinal next to him is a man eyeballing at Billy`s penis. Billy gets angry and tells the gay man to "Keep your fucking face out of my pants". When the man gives him a remark that he is "Just so big" Billy loses it and chucks the faggot out.
This is when he first talks to Layla, who he wants to borrow a coin for the phone from. Being very rude Billy gets a coin and gets to call to his parents.
Talking to his mother it seems that his mother don`t really remember him.
Billy tells that "We are staying in town." Meaning him and his "wife" which he do not have.

After a funny argument between Billy and his mother Jan Brown (Anjelica Huston) he agrees that him and his "wife" will come to dinner. Billy kidnaps Layla and they go to her car, and Billy forces Layla to act like his wife and make him look good at the dinner with his parents. Layla allows Billy to kidnap her and she quickly seems to get an at romantacly attractment to Billy.

The subplot of the movie is Billy searching revenge on a Buffalo Bills kicker Scott Wood for losing the Super bowl XXV against the New York Giants in 1991, making him lose allot of money, and got him to prison.

For me this is a really funny mostly because of the character Billy. He is a bitter and depressed person, and his arguments with his parents and lashing out at Layla and his friend Goon is really funny. Billy is basically being an ass hole to everyone he meets.
Billy`s family is also funny. And the dinner scene is so good.
The soundtrack of the music is also really good, much of the song are written and performed by Vincent Gallo, amongst others Lonely Boy, Drowning In Brown and With Smiles & Smiles & Smiles. There is also some music bye Yes, Heart Of Sunrise and Sweetness.
And there is also a song of Frank Sinatra it is performed by Gallo`s father Vincent Gallo. Sr Fools Rush In.

I give this movie a 10 out of 10

Monkey Shines (1988)

Kind of a 80s B-horror movie, with a monkey with almost human intelligence as the killer.
Spooky right haha, well it was a funny movie.

This movie is about the athlete Allan Mann (Jason Beghe). Who turns depressed and suicidal after being crippled because he is ran over by a truck. When a friend of Allan, Geoffrey (John Pankow) who is a scientist and has been experimenting with injecting human brain tissue into monkey, learns that Allan is having problems he wants to help Allan out. He wants to give one of the monkeys injected with human brain tissue to Allan to help him out in the daily life.
This monkey goes by the name Ella (Ella is played by Boo, the vocal effects are made by Frank Welker)

Allan and Ellen quickly becomes good friends
And gets very attached to each other. But when Allan falls in love with his nurse, Ella gets jealous and all hell breaks loose.

This really is a B—movie from the 80s, and if it has ever been scary I dont know.
But I found the movie quite entertaining.

I give this movie a 4 out of 10

Ken Park (2002)

Now this is a special movie, its a movie I really enjoyed watching while I was drunk when I was younger, And also this time I was kind of drunk while watching this movie.
Ken Park is what I would call a independent movie by Larry Clark which I have always been a fan of.
And the writer of this movie is another guy I really like Harmony Korine.

This movie opens up with a skater kid rolling down the streets listening to music, and going to the skate park. When he gets there he sets up a film camera and pulls out a gun, he looks into the camera, smiles and shots himself in the head.
This kid was Ken park(Adam Chubbuck). The camera zooms out and we hear the voice of another boy Shawn (James Bullard). Shawn is telling that Ken Park was a good friend of him and that his name backwards is Krap Nek and that he used to tease him about it. But he believed that this had nothing to do with his suicide.
And then there are some pictures of "Krap Nek" when he was young and Shawn is telling us a little about him. This is where the movie starts and it will tell us about the life of the friends of Ken park in the weeks before the suicide.

Shawn is also a skater kid, he is play fighting with his younger brother and wants him to say that he loves him. Shawn seems to be a normal teenager, he has a girlfriend Hannah (Shanie Calahan) but we will find out Shawn has a sexual relationship with Hannah`s mother Rhonda (Maeve Quinlan)

The next kid we meet is Claude (Stephen Jasso) which lives in a kind of white trash home. He in the yard with his father (Wade Williams) who is lifting weights. Claude`s father asks Claude if he wants to lift too, but Claude do not wants to. He likes more to skate, this is when his father gets angry and tells his son that he is ashamed of him the way he wears his pants and that he thinks he is a wimp.
Claude`s father seems to hate him, and later in the movie we start to understand that Claude`s father also seems to hate himself for being a bad father and a failure at his life.

The next kid we meet is a girl, her name is Peaches (Tiffany Limos) she is living alone with her very religious and over protective father (Julio Oscar Mechoso) the father`s wife and Peaches mother died when Peaches was young, and her father seems to be obsessed with his dead wife, going to her grave every day. Peaches is having sex with her boyfriend while her father is going to the graveyard to talk to his dead wife. When her father is going home sooner than Peaches was expecting and find the two having sex, he loses his temper and beats up Peaches boyfriend who is tied to the bed.

The last of the kids we will meet, is the young man Tate (James Ransone) Tate is the most fucked up of these friends. He lives with his grandparents (Patricia Place) and (Harrison Young).
The first we see of Tate is him sitting and doing some kind of "Work"?!?! He is writing names on pictures of starving africans it seems. Tate has a three legged dog called Legs which keeps barking, and Tate gets annoyed. When his grandmother comes in to Tate with a plate off cut up fruits Tate gets even more annoyed and tells her to get out of his room and that she acts like a "Fucking bitch" Legs keeps barking and Tate ties his mouth shut with a sock and tells the dog that he will tear off the dogs last front leg if he keeps barking. Tate gets more and more what I will call psychotic as the movie goes.

As I said this is a movie I always have really enjoyed, I have seen it many times, and will probably watch it many more times in my life.
I think its cool that Larry Clark uses mostly unknown actors in his movies, Larry Clark even has a very small acting part in the end of the movie.
There is allot of punk music and some hip hop in this movie, which is good because it is a independent teenage skater movie. Some of the music played is Lamar Vannoy preformed by the band Bouncing Souls, this song is the first and its playing while Ken Park is skating another song is Antennas by the punk band Rancid. And there is also a song What A Nigga Know by KMD. All this songs fits the movie very good.

The movie got allot of critics for its very graphical sex scenes, amongst other a threesome where you can basically see everything, and a mastrubation scene where the actor James Ransone jerks off until he blows his load. The movie has even been called "Child pornography" but in my eyes it is not that at all. The movie was giving the rating 18 years old

I give this movie an 8 out of 10.

Fear (1996)

Todays movie is thriller movie Fear.

In this movie we meet the teenager Nicole Walker played by a young Reese Witherspoon. She is a normal teenager which lives in Seattle with her slightly overprotective father Steven Walker (William Petersen). And their new family. His second wife Laura Walker (Amy Brenneman) and her son Toby (Christopher Gray) which is from her first marriage.

Nicole as any other teenager goes out to party with her best friend Margo Masse (Alyssa Milano). At the party Margo is checking out some thugs playing pool, and this is when Nicole first see the handsome young guy who goes by the name David McCall (Mark Wahlberg)
Later at a rave Nicole meets David again, who is in the same group of friends that Margo hangs out with.
Nicole quickly finds out that David is a very gentle and charming young man, and she falls for him.
David wants to meet Nicole`s family, but her father do not see David as the same charming young man as Nicole sees him as.

Nicole is a virgin, but on a rollercoaster she leads David`s hand between her legs, and she gets and orgasm at the most wild part of the rollercoaster. Later Steven has to go to a business trip and he brings his wife with him, and leaves Nicole and Toby home alone, he tells Nicole that no other than them to are suppose to be at the house.
Nicole of course calls her boyfriend David and tells him her parents will be gone for a couple of days, and if he wants to come over.

David is in a car with his shady friends when Nicole calls, and tells her he needs to do something, but that he can come by later. Nicole gives David the code to the alarm for the house, because she probably would be asleep when he comes.
David comes to the house and they have sex for the first time.

Later while Nicole is at the school with her friend Gary Rohmer (Todd Caldecott) waiting for David to pick her up. Gary gives Nicole a hug, when David pulls up the side walk with his car. When he see them hugging David jumps out the car and brutally beats up Gary and accidentally punches Nicole.

This is the first clue Nicole gets that David might not be the sweet and gentle young man she thought he was. Later in the movie we will find out that David has a bipolar, antisocial and very unstable personality.

The movie is a very typical 90s horror/ thriller movie, it is a fairly good movie, and contains allot of good music amongst others Wild horses played by The Sundays, and Comedown by Bush.

Its a entertaining movie, and very typical 90s. It is worth a watch, but its not a movie I would rewatch many times, and for me it gets a little boring after a while.

I give this movie a 5 out of 10

Hellraiser Inferno (2000)

As a horror movie fan I have of course seen all the Hellraiser movies.
But I saw Hellraiser Inferno again tonight.

This movie takes you to the life of a criminal detective called Joseph Thorne (Craig Sheffer). He is a smart detective, in the start of the movie he is playing chess with a professor.

But he has his dark sides,  he likes cocaine, alcohol and prostitutes although he has a wife and a daughter.
In the beginning of the movie he and his partner Detective Tony Nenonen goes to a crime scene, wich seems like a brutal satanic ritual murder, and Joseph finds a candle stake with the lemarchands box, wich he takes with him.
Later that night he goes home, and sees his wife sleeping on the coach, and he goes to give his daughter a kiss.

Then he goes out to a hooker street and picks up a whore for the night.
They have sex and do drugs, and drink. Joseph goes to the bathroom, drinks some whiskey and starts looking at the box. When he starts touching it, the box is changing its shapes all by itself.
After this Joseph is having some strange illusions, wich he thinks is dreams.
But this is just the start of Hell for detective Joseph.
When he wakes up, the hooker is killed and hunged up on the wall.

After this everything gets worse and worse for detective Joseph.
He starts investigating this murder and find himself in allot of problems.
He keeps hearing about a "person" called the engineer. He goes to different shady people like pimps and tattoo and piercing artists too find this engineer. What he keeps hearing is "Hunt the engineer... and the Engineer will hung you"
After this detective Joseph goes deeper and deeper into a Hell he can not get out of.

This movie is more of a neo-noir movie than any of the previous Hellraiser movie I would say.

It is worth a watch if you are a Hellraiser fan, but it is of course not near the best of the Hellraiser movies.
But it is a surreal and brutal movie, with everything from mystery, ninja cowboys, whores and cocaine to pinhead himself.

I give this movie 4 out of 10.

Naboer (2005)

Naboer is the first movie I will review.

Naboer is a Norwegian psychological thriller/ horror movie made in the 2005 by Pål Sletaune.
This is Pål Sletaunes thirds feature lenght movie.

This movie received an over-18 rating in Norway because of a scene containing sexual violence.
Just one time before has a movie gotten an over 18 rating in Norway and that was the movie Hotel St. Pauli from 1987.

Anyways. I have seen this movie several times before, but I decided to watch it again the other night.
I got in a nice position with a couple of beers, turned off the lights and put the Naboer on, on my DVD player. Yes DVD might be old fashion these days. But I still like to watch my movies on DVD, or VHS.

The whole movie starts out with a guy called John, he is played by the Norwegian actor Kristoffer Joner. Wich just had a breakup with his (probably long term) girlfriend Ingrid played by Anna Bache-Wiig wich had got herself a new boyfriend Åke (Michael Nyquist)
She comes by to pick up some of her stuff that is still left at Johns apartment. From the start it seems to be a kind of tension between John and Ingrid, and you can understand that something is not quite right.
The new boyfriend of Ingrid is suppose to honk his car horn and Ingird is suppose to wave in the window to see that everything is all right.
From this point you understand that something is weird.

After this there is a scene where John meets his neighbor Anne (Cecilie A. Mosli), wich wants him to do her a favor.
He agrees and goes into her apartment, which seems a bit weird.
Its very messy and they have groceries everywhere.
The favor she wants him to do is to move a closet in front of the front door.

This is when he meets Kim (Julia Schacht), the other girl who lives in the apartment.
The two girl seems to ask him allot of odd questions, and he starts to  get uncomfortable.

After this the movie gets darker and darker into the abyss of the deranged mind of John.

I will not make any spoilers for this movie, but it is really worth a watch for horror/ psychologic thriller fans.

I give this movie a 7 out of a 10.

It is definitely a scary movie, for me psychological thrillers are more scary than any other slasher or horror movie, because its more realistic than any "escape from the mental hospital serial killer slasher movie" that was ever made. The whole movie has a gloomy and nighrmarish atmosphere. And it takes you to a mind bending reality.

Hope you all will enjoy this mind bending psychological thriller.
