"Angel Heart" is an American Neo-noir Psychological horror movie, and is based on William Hjortsberg's novel from 1978 called "Falling Angel". The movie is written and directed by Alan Parker.
The movie takes place in 1955, and Harry Angel (Mickey Rourke) is a New York City private investigator. One day Harry Angel is hired by a man called Louis Cyphre (Robert De Niro) to track down a crooner called Jonathan Liebling, and professionally called "Johnny Favorite". Cyphre helped Favorite to become famous, and wants to know where he is, and if he is still alive. As Harry Angel starts to investigate he soon find himself sinking into a Louisiana underworld of Voodoo, and his life will soon take a drastic turn.
I am a big fan of Mickey Rourke as a actor, and I can not believe I did not see this movie before. Rourke is the perfect actor to play a shady private investigator. The movie is a great neo-noir horror movie, and is very gloomy and dark, I really liked it. The dark scenes where Mickey Rourke is smoking and drinking Scotch and the Jazz music, and the great psychological twist of it all. Robert De Niro is also doing a great job as the Devil himself. The movie kind of has similarities to the classic "Chinatown" from 1974 with Jack Nicholson. This really was a great movie.
7 out of 10.
