Mondo Cane is a so called "Shockumentary" written and directed by Italian film makers Paolo Cavara, Franco Prosperi and Gualtiero Jacopetti. Mondo Cane was a big success as it was released, and inspired an entire genre of Mondo films.
The movie consists of a series of mostly real archive footage from perverted and violent behavior around the world. Bizarre rituals, slaughter of animals, and other cruel behavior.
I can understand that this might have been a very shocking film back in the 60s, but as today when you can find pretty much whatever kind of sick stuff you want to watch online, it is not very shocking anymore. I was kind of bored when I was watching this, but still it is a classic piece of movie history, and that made it worth watching, and also a little interesting. It is cool that this is kind of the first mondo film made, and that it inspired much more disturbing mondo films to come. Such as "Faces of death", "Traces of death", "The killing of America" and so on. To me it is kind of a Cult movie, and I do own this movie on DVD. So I would say it is worth watching, but don´t expect it to be the most disturbing movie you will ever watch.
