The movie revolves around the life of a stray cat, and is an anthology of three horror stories.
What I find cool is that some content from other Stephen King tales is put into the movie.
Like in the start of the movie the stray cat gets chased by a dog, the seems to me to be the dog Cujo (1983).
Also we see that the cat almost gets run over by a car with a bumper sticker saying "I am Christine" which is a reference to Christine (1983)
The movie starts with a stray cat running around, getting chased by a St.Bernard dog looking like Cujo, and also almost getting hit by a car with the bumper sticker "I am Christine". Hiding in some boxes from the dog the cat gets shipped off to the big city.
In one of the windows the cat sees a manikin and a kind of transparent ghost girl talks to the cat, asking for help. Then a man in a car with Quitters Inc written on the side captures the cat in a cage, and the first story starts.
In the waiting room Dick Morrison sees a very upset man crying, and Morrison is trying to leave the place. But as trying to leave he is stopped and taken to the office of Dr. Vinny Donatti (Alan King).
Dick quickly understands that Dr. Donatti and the Quitters Inc are very serious about smoking. And that if Morrison will relapse and smoke, his wife will be put in a cage with electricity in the floor.
He shows him the electric torture room, and gives the stray cat electric shocks while playing music.
Dick are going to quite smoking, but it will be harder than Dick first thought.
There is a scene in this story where Dick Morrison is sitting watching the movie The Dead Zone, a movie also written by Stephen King, and he is commenting "Who writes this crap?"
As the cat escapes from the Quitters Inc, it ones agains sees the transparent ghost girl, this time on a TV screen, and this is where the second story starts The Ledge.
The stray cat is outside a casino, in front of a road with allot of cars driving, on the other side there are two men betting if the cat can get across the road alive or not, one of these betters are Cressner (Kenneth McMillan) a wealthy man who likes to gamble. Johnny Norris (Robert Hays). Norris is involved with a woman who is in fact the wife of Cressner.
Cressner has Norris kidnaped as revenge for being with his wife.
Cressner blackmails Norris into a deal, if Norris can walk along the ledge of the skyscraper where they keep him kidnaped, and makes it all the way around. Norris will get his wife, but if Norris do not agree with this deal, Cressner will call the cops and have Norris arrested for drug possession.
In this story we can see that Cressner flips through a magazine of the July 1976 issue, which contained the short story that the segment was based on.
The cat once again escapes, and this time finds its way on to a train to Wilmington North Carolina, and the new story begins "General" where the cat finds the transparent ghost girl, but this is the real girl Amanda (Drew Barrymore). Amanda takes the cat in and keeps him as a pet and gives him the name General. But her parents does not like the cat so much, specially when their pet bird gets killed by a small troll living in her wall. General gets blamed and is taken to a shelter by Amanda's mother. When night falls the little Troll once again comes out from the wall and try to steal Amanda'a breath in her sleep. Meanwhile at the animal shelter General manages to escape, and finds his way back to Amanda.
In this story we can see Amanda's mother reading Stephen Kings book Pet Sematary
I think this is a fun movie, its suppose to be a horror movie, but I see it more as a fantasy movie. I really like 80s horror movies, the effects are so cool, and it is fun to watch movies that might have been scary at one point in time.
The story I enjoyed the most is the first story "Quitters Inc" I like James Woods as an actor, and maybe I like this the most cause I am a smoker myself. I find the plot very funny.
And the scene where James Woods is trying to quite smoke and goes to a party where everyone is smoking, thats my favorite scene of the movie.
I also like the way they put in stuff from other Stephen King movies, like Cujo and the car with the "I am Christine" Bumper sticker.
Some of the music used in the movie is amongst others Sting with "Every Breath You Take" and "Cat's Eye" Sung by Ray Stevens.
I give this movie a 6 out 10 rating.
