The Dark end of the street is a documentary movie directed by Steven Okazaki. It is filmed from 1995 to 1998 in the Tenderloin, San Francisco, California.
The film follows the lives of five young heroin addicts through a period of three years. We see how their lives decay into prostitution, crime, AIDS and hard drug-use.
The cover of the movie says: "Makes Trainspotting look like an afterschool special" and that really is true. This is the best documentary I have seen about drugs. It really shows the harsh reality of these youths falling deeper and deeper into heroin addiction. One can see where movies like Black Metal Veins are getting inspiration from. There is allot of good music in the movie amongst other Team Dresch "Don't Try Suicide", Eve Bekker & Karl J. Goldring "The Dark end Of The Street" and Tanya Donelly "Sweet Ride". If you like movies such as Trainspotting, give this a go!
It gets 10 out of 10.
