Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002)

Sympathy for Mr.Vengeance is one of my all time favorite movies.
It is actually called 복수는 나의 것 which translates to "Vengeance is mine"

It is a South Korean crime-Thriller movie, and it is directed by Park Chan-Wook. In my opinion this is the best of the Vengeance trilogy which consists of Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy (2003 and Lady Vengeance (2005).

The story follows the deaf-mute character Ryu who is trying to earn enough money to pay for a new kidney to his dying sister. This ends up with a girl getting killed by accident. The father of the girl seeks his revenge on the people who killed her.

I really like that the movie is not about some psychotic killer, or monster. It is about fairly normal people, normal people who happens to do extremely violent and horrific acts, and that is to me much more creepy and scary than movies like The Grudge, Hellraiser, Friday the 13th or whatever. I feel that it is much deeper and much darker than other movies. The movie also contains some dark comedy.  To me it is really a masterpiece of a movie so beautiful and so dark.  10 Out of 10
