The Woodsman (2004)

The Woodsman is about a very taboo topic, and that topic is pedophilia. It is a drama film, and is directed and co-written by Steven Fecther and Nicole Kassell. The movie is based on Fecther`s play with the same name.
The movie is about a child molester called Walter and is played by Kevin Bacon.
Mr. Bacon is doing a great job acting as the main role in this movie.

Walter (Kevin Bacon) is a convicted child molester, after 12 years in prison he returns to Philadelphia. His family and friends has all abandoned him, and do not want anything with him to do. The only person he still has contact with is his sisters husband Carlos (Benjamin Bratt). His apartment is right across from a elementary school, which obviously is a big source of temptation for Walter.

Walter gets a job at a local lumber mill, this is where he meets the woman Vicki (Kyra Sedgwick). She is one of the few woman who are working there, and she sometimes gets bullied by the other men working there. Walter and Vicki quickly find chemistry between them, and they end up sleeping together. Walter tells Vicki that he used to molest young girls, but also saying that "I didn´t hurt them"
Vicki is clearly disturbed and shocked to get this information.

Walter keeps getting visits from a rude police officer who tells him that they are keeping an eye on him. Walter sees a man who keeps showing up at the elementary school, talking to the kids, and giving them candy. Walter keeps a journal over this man, and refers to him as Candy (Kevin Rice).

Walter life downturns again when a suspicious co-worker called Eve (Mary-Kay), and she shares the information with all the co-workers at the limber mill. They quickly turn hostile towards Walter.

Sitting on the bus Walter sees a girl, when she steps off the bus he follows her to a park where she is bird watching. He starts talking to her asking if she is there often.

Very frustrated Walter leaves work to go to the park, Vicki thinking the worst goes to his apartment, finding it wrecked and finds the journal thorn up and lying all over the floor. Walter again meets the girl in the park.

This was an interesting movie, pedophilia is a very terrible thing. But still in this movie you can not help but feel bad for Walter. He tells a psychologist in the movie that he wished that he could look at young girls without feeling sexually attracted to them. He is having urges that he can not control, but he wishes that it was not like this.
It is a sad movie, about terrible crimes against children, and how a man struggles with his inner feelings that he can not control.

I give the movie a 5 out of 10.
