Fitzcarraldo (1982)

Fitzcarraldo is a West-German surrealistic adventure/drama film written and directed by Werner Herzog, and starring Klaus Kinski. This is the story of Brian Sweeney Fitzgerald (Klaus Kinski). He is an Irishman, and in Peru he is known as Fitzcarraldo. Fitzcarraldo is determined to transport a steamship through a jungle and over a steep hill in order to access a rich rubber territory in the Amazon Basin, and build a Opera house in the middle of the jungle.

Another masterpiece by Werner Herzog, this is a truly amazing and beautiful movie. The movie is based on the Peruvian rubber-baron Carlos Fitzcarrald. Klaus Kinski and Werner Herzog has made some really good movie through the times, and this one is in my opinion one of the best, even though Kinski and Herzog almost ended up killing each other making this movie, it turned out a true work of art! The movie is of course kind of avant-garde, such as most of Herzog´s movies. So if you are into avant-garde movies, or Werner Herzog, this is a movie you should not miss! Absolutely amazing! 10 out of 10.
